George Whitelock

Former All Black & Crusaders, Canterbury Captain

About

After a hugely successful rugby career, former All Black George Whitelock is now embarking on life after sport with the same level of dedication and hard work that took him to the top of the game.

The eldest brother of one of New Zealand rugby’s most famed families, George played one test for the All Blacks in 2009. He made his provincial debut for Otago in 2007 before moving north and enjoying a stellar career with the Crusaders and Canterbury.

George’s outstanding career came to an end in 2015. After one season in Japan he opted to begin his ‘second act’ in the dairy farming industry in his home province of Manawatu rather than take up an overseas contract; retiring from rugby at the relatively young age of 30.

George and wife Kayla opened Galaxy Dairies in 2018 on the same land at Linton where his grandparents began a cheese factory in 1916. With 1500 cows to be milked twice a day, it’s a 24-7 job and continues a family tradition – George’s parents have been dairy farmers for more than 30 years.
